Captain America: Hail Hydra is a series tat aims to explore the antagonistic relationship between Steve Rogers and the forces of Hydra throughout the years. Issue #1 starts at the beginning, naturally, as Cap and Bucky embark on another daring mission during WWII. Those hoping for an old-school adventure that prizes fun over deep storytelling won’t be disappointed. Issue #1 is an enjoyable throwback to the Cap stories of yore, but it also feels extremely familiar. How many times in how many various media have we seen Cap and Bucky invade a Nazi castle and do battle with the worst monsters Hydra and the Reich have to offer? What Jonathan Maberry fails to do in this issue is lay the foundation for a compelling story arc.
